Feature Projects
Hardees Restaurant - St. Louis, MO
The Hardee's at 601 Chestnut in Downtown Saint Louis, MO was a
negotiated project with an accelerated schedule. The project started
it late January with minimal plans and a goal to have the restaurant
operating by opening day of the baseball season, April 1. The
experience of the superintendent helped to avoid delays and reduced
the need for overtime, and due to the coordinated efforts of the
City of St. Louis, the landlord, and the owner, Lauer Construction
was able to turn the project over in 56 calendar days. Since its
opening, this flagship restaurant is a predominant feature in the
downtown Kiener Plaza area.
Borders - Chesterfield, MO
The Borders at 2040 Chesterfield Mall in Chesterfield, MO was a project with many varied and challenging
aspects. This 2-story, 25,500 square foot job involved an exterior addition to the mall property, 9 separate
roofs, a 42-foot high round tower, 2 curved mall storefronts and a café. The project proved even
more testing since it was located directly next to one of the main mall entrances and below a movie theater,
requiring the superintendent to take great care to ensure that job site noise did not affect the theater.
Especially loud work, including cutting the mall slab for a new elevator and escalator access to each level,
was coordinated to be completed during the theater’s off hours. Despite the many challenges involved in this
project, the store was completed within the allotted 10-week schedule.
Kohl's Department Store - Various Locations
The remodel of multiple Kohl’s department stores in Missouri,
Illinois, Nebraska, Iowa, Ohio, and Indiana demanded a complete
alteration of the interior of the approximately 88,000 SF stores
while regular store operations continued without interruption.
Construction for each store was separated into 6 different phases,
each completed within two weeks with one phase overlapping the next.
During this time the storefront was also given a facelift with both
store entrances remaining open and fully functional throughout the
remodeling process. The remodel work required working both day and
night shifts. Coordinating closely with the Kohl’s staff and
ensuring the safety of the customers were top priorities for the
Lauer Team, which has proven successful in this series of remodels.
Qdoba Mexican Grill - St. Peters, MO
The Qdoba Mexican Grill at Mid Rivers Mall was a design/build
project which required a blend of ideas between Qdoba and mall
management. The mall wanted to create a viable location for a
new client, and Qdoba wanted a location that would be both visible
and functional. The project took over the location of an exterior
emergency stairwell and three existing mall spaces. To provide
Qdoba with an exterior entrance, the stairwell was relocated and a
storefront opening was created in the mall exterior. Because the
space is located on the second floor of the mall, all below grade
work had to be coordinated with the 3 mall tennants and the mall
offices located below the restaurant. Despite the demolition of 3
existing stores, relocation of the stairwell, and complete
construction of the restaurant, all construction was completed
within 7 weeks.
